Commercial Director - Consumer Sales, India & South East Asia

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Directs sales function to achieve growth objectives as per the long-term strategic Plan. Remit includes SEA, India and other distributor markets for imported as well as exports / locally produced portfolio. Responsible for managing and controlling the sales budget and associated cost centers. (30%)
  2. Objectively assess process to identify gaps and solutions to improve our efforts, with a particular emphasis on portfolio development and distribution. (20%)
  3. Develop and improve business relations & influence with key stakeholders (external as well as internal) – including distributors, Cross functional leadership team, Global team (20%)
  4. Provide coaching/leadership and mentoring to the day-to-day operations of the sales department. (15%)
  5. Support the building & scaling up of ISEA eCommerce strategy. Immediate focus of driving incremental opportunities and development of 2025 strategies across all countries and clusters in ISEA. (15%)


Additional / Secondary Responsibilities:

  1. Assess and provide joint recommendation with Marketing partners on the innovation pipeline to drive growth.
  2. Acts as key member of the ISEA Leadership team, responsible for running the operations in the BU.



Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in sales management, business, or related fields
  2. 10-15 years relevant experience, (Min 3 years within a lead role) with proven track record in developing and successfully implementing winning sales strategies and accelerating business growth in global organizations (FMCG or related consumer product categories)
  3. Experience within a Global and/or Regional matrix environment managing stakeholders
  4. Experience managing regional distributors and e-com agencies, vendors and partners in the TH, MY, SG. India experience would be a plus.
  5. Previous people management experience
  6. Experience leading major change under ambiguous and fast-moving conditions.
  7. Ability to motivate others to achieve results and deliver against commitments without formal authority.



Role Dimensions:

This role actively delivers on the consumer business profitable growth agenda for ISEA BU. The role has responsibilities for both the SEA (SG, TH, MY) and India retail markets. In addition, this role is responsible for export customers and new business opportunities. The nature of the retailing environment is that issues or opportunities escalate very quickly and response times are short. The incumbent needs to have a complete appreciation of the business model to identify best fit scenarios for the business as they arise.. The role has a significant influence over future strategy. Affects own team, department, function, business unit, geography. Collaborates with distributors to make decisions on spend levels and fees across a full spectrum of programs. Refines strategy and recommends shifts to approach and/or spend, based on data and business objectives. This position helps drive projects to completion, impacting own team, department, business unit and the end consumer. This position has a positive impact on BU, sales and ultimately the consumer, by meeting sales and distribution objectives. Key dimensions:

  • People Management: 50% internal (internal meetings, SOP process, management meetings etc.). 50% external (customer meetings, business reviews, industry forums etc.).
  • Superior Negotiation Skills, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong strategic, influence as well as operational skills - driving for business results
  • Proven experience working successfully in cross-functional teams with ability to influence and network effectively to manage interdependencies and the matrix
  • Influences to drive the execution of agreed strategies across countries to deliver the ISEA sales and growth objectives.
  • Cultural sensitivity, facilitating rapport with internal and external team members, customers and stakeholders
  • Leads and drives the creation of a tightly knit ISEA commercial team that form and norm with speed and agility.
  • Growth Obsessed: Identifies emerging niches and opportunities for the company
