The R&D VP, Asia Pacific Zone is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of Asia Pacific's Research and Development Team. ^ Set strategic direction of R&D function within the Asia Pacific Region – ensuring alignment to Commercial (Flavour Solutions and Consumer) Business Strategy ensuring cross functional alignment and engagement at all levels.

 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Leading the APZ Product Development team across multiple sites/countries/JV partners and deploy appropriate resources against development projects, directing inter-team and cross-functional working when required.
  • Directing and prioritizing work per business priorities and projects which support the strategic plan for growth and profit improvement.
  • Representing APZ R&D in relevant Global and Regional customer engagements both on-site and at the customer’s facilities. Represent the Asia Pacific region in Global R&D (Science Council) meetings.
  • Building technological and leadership capabilities across PD team by developing an efficient regional team committed to excellence, performance and shared accountability.
  • Developing top talent manage and develop technical and leadership competency to address succession planning needs.
  • Creating robust technical community to develop best in class practices across the zone, and allow transfer of knowledge across functions, whilst maintaining required confidentiality.
  • Leading Product Development activities to support APZ CCI program to improve margin performance that delivers a competitive edge, such as formula simplification and rationalization
  • Implementing effective systems and processes to enable cross functional and organizational effectiveness.
  • Ensuring activities related to the functional compliance with relevant Acts/ Legal Requirements, Business Ethics and Food Manufacturing Standards.
  • Ensuring the development and adherence to Global, Regional and Local policies and standards to protect proprietary information.

 

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

 

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Technical - Research & Development
  • 15 Years Product Development Experience in Food Industry.
  • Minimum 5 Years’ experience in a regional leadership role.
  • Operational and strategic experience gained in a multi-cultural, multi-site and matrix working environment.
  • Extensive experience in product development formulation (food) and demonstrated experience in the associated Manufacturing and Quality Assurance Techniques.
  • Experience in leading product development and technical teams across various product categories (Wet and Dry) – Seasonings, Flavors, Sauces.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Food Industry including product manufacture/ technology. Contribute to strategic thinking on the Long-Term Planning (LTP) for the Asia Pacific Zone as well as input into Global R&D Strategy. Knowledge and experience in both Wet and Dry Categories. Specifically, Condiments, Sauces, Seasonings and Flavoring.
  • Experience with Flavor science/technology.
  • Understands the business impact (profit, cost and risk) of any decisions made on product, process and regulatory issues.
  • Insight and understanding of key regulatory changes – Partner with QA function to ensure understanding and of business impact and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to lead and manage regionally diverse teams.
  • Strive for continuous improvement of self and team.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking/influence with a hands-on, operational approach.
  • Interacts with the key members of the Asia Pacific Leadership Team and functional reports. Works Directly with Key stakeholders, Customers, Joint Venture Partners and key functional and commercial leaders.
  • Forms strong relationship with key customers/ strategic accounts.
  • Ability to lead and manage teams across diverse geographies and portfolios/ categories.
  • Able to balance strategic thinking/influence with a hands-on, operational approach.
  • Continuous Improvement Focus - Foster a culture of continuous improvement - promoting both innovation and idea generation, balanced with and providing cost effective solutions.
  • Customer Relationship Management - Collaborative but decisive.
  • Influencing skills to win confidence of internal and external stakeholders. Stakeholder management experience (internal and external). B2B Customer Relationship experience is essential.
