Operations Technician I

Position Overview:

Makes and/or packages products according to established formulas and packaging standards.  Incumbent will monitor production needs, supply packaging areas with processed products, and/or operate packaging equipment to create finished goods.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and start automatic filling and packaging equipment, load packaging and raw materials, and pack off the finished products
  • Weigh, blend, and cook product on all mix systems
  • Follow detailed procedures and complete paperwork accurately to ensure safe, consistent, and quality product
  • Make product changeovers, package size changes, and minor and major repairs on all equipment
  • Monitor operation of mixing equipment through visual checks of product and sensory evaluation of key component pieces
  • Assemble component pieces of equipment belonging to continuous and pre-mix systems and their auxiliary components
  • Document downtime and machine adjustments
  • Understand and practice loss control of raw and packaging materials
  • Work with teams to identify process issues and improvement opportunities
  • Actively promote safety and identify unsafe actions and conditions through the use of a principle-based safety approach
  • Be responsible for the quality and quantity of production daily
  • Obtain and return ingredients using a forklift
  • Perform checks on critical timing of equipment.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Experience:

  • Minimum one year experience working in a mechanical and/or technical field required or two years total job experience.
  • Experience following detailed procedures and completing accurate paperwork required.
  • Experience adhering to and following company, plant, regulatory, and customer standards required.
  • Clean-in-place / sanitation experience preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have mechanical aptitude and knowledge of using tools properly, required.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals required.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure required.
  • Ability to use SAP and other software as required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly, required.
  • Flexibility to support/train on all three shifts required.
