Position Overview
Under the direction of the DC Manager, the Continuous Improvement Manager will be directly responsible for providing leadership, direction, and functional expertise to the DC to implement a world class Continuous Improvement Program. This position leads the JTE (Journey to Excellence) strategy focused on building Employee capability and driving Employee engagement through implementation of high-performance work systems to achieve exceptional business results. Coaches Leadership teams and ensures that JTE systems, and problem-solving methodologies and tools across the DC are aligned to create common objectives for all departments and achieve plant/facility goals. This position will be responsible for leading and developing the systems such as Loss Analysis, Visual Factory and deliver big scale savings projects for innovation, productivity and overall Site efficiency. Additionally, the position will have responsibility for the Site’s CCI program and delivery as well as ownership for the labor management system (LMS) used to provide loss intelligence data around Productivity. The job requires a sound understanding of technical concepts within the incumbent's work area and a basic knowledge in other areas. The job also requires knowledge gained through substantial applicable work experience, often achieved through a variety of work assignments, to supplement formal knowledge. This level of proficiency enables the incumbent to apply technical skills and knowledge and ensure essential procedures are followed as well as help to define the standards and specifications around which others will operate. This position will primarily support Continuous Improvement initiatives at the Maryland Logistics Center but will also support the North America Distribution network regionally as needed to deliver network scope projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the Continuous Cost Improvement (CCI) program for the site to include partnering with other functions to ideate cost savings opportunities and assisting with the financial validation. Helps to build the business case for Site investment and supports strategic capacity planning. Leads annual Loss Analysis activity for site to identify new cost savings strategies and opportunities cross-functionally.
- Responsible for systems ownership and oversight to include interaction with vendor/contractors for routine data validation, maintenance and/or system changes, in partnership with Engineering team. This includes the Labor Management System (LMS) used at the Site, as well as other technology enabling software systems (JASCI, ATOM, EWMS).
- Coaches and/or leads Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) pillar work to build loss elimination capability, leading the Focused Improvement pillar to increase loss intelligence and problem-solving capability. Provides oversight for the Training & Development pillar to define the framework to build individual and team skills and capability across the Site.
- Provide leadership and coaching to Continuous Improvement team, driving results achievement through others. Achieve results through participative, high-performance management and leadership skills. Leads Training team with responsibility for new-hire onboarding, development of standardized training and process documentation, and validation of Site training completion.
- Controls budget spend to forecast and budget, manage and control labor costs to budgeted levels.
- Process owner for Site Performance Control Systems (PCS) to include DDS Tier 1- Tier 4 and corresponding scorecard management. Also serves as Site lead for 5S, Gemba and Leader Standard Work (LSW) programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline required
- 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing facility or Warehouse/Distribution Center, with leadership experience and a proven record of target focused delivery in fast paced Operational environment.
- Understanding the Tools and Techniques used in Lean Manufacturing, 5S and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
- Proven project management skills, with the ability to participate in initiatives according to business needs and strategy In-depth understanding of the specific work unit; knowledge of the functional area and how external factors impact the work unit.
- Background knowledge of the industry in order to understand which improvement options are feasible. Therefore, a solid understanding of applicable regulations, safety protocols, manufacturing tolerances and related data is needed.
- Expected to know and understand applicability of current best industry practices that apply to field of responsibility. In-depth understanding of how own area integrates with other areas.
- Comprehensive understanding of how multiple areas contribute to achieving the goals of the business. Basic understanding of the industry sector in which they are operating and the impact to own function.
Interpersonal Skills - leadership, interactions, communication, influence: Sound and comprehensive communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to exchange complicated information, including sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience. Provides mentoring, coaching and leading technology and technical skills development.

Dimension
The McCormick Logistics Center is the largest handler of spices and herbs in the world. Responsible for shipping over 100 mm CDP & FSD cases and 60% of USCPD & USFS annual revenue. Included is the handling of packaging, raw material, WIP and finished goods inventories and Prepack production within the Logistic Center. Accountable for ~$60 mm annual budget with ~2,000,000 square foot warehouse space, inventory value ~$300 mm and over ~350 employees and contractors. Uses judgement based on the analysis of information. Requires attention to detail in making evaluative judgements based on the analysis of factual information. Expected to resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of technical experience and review of precedents. Able to lead others in problem-solving and build capability of teams to utilize problem-solving methodologies. Shared responsibility for improvements to volume, quality, timeliness of end results. Position can support and implement breakthrough technologies to deliver customer requirements. The impact of the job is on their own team and other teams whose work activities are closely related. The performance of the teams will be directly affected by the performance of the individual.

Base Salary: $103,520 - $181,150
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan.
