Role summary

The Senior Manager Commercial Strategy Planning & Distributor Enablement will own the strategy planning “engine” for a distributor-led international business. This role connects regional category/brand teams, consumer insights, and commercial leaders to define where to play and how to win, then translates strategy into scalable distributor-ready materials. The role also leads the Distributor Portal as the central system for commercial content, ensuring consistent, high-quality information sharing with internal teams and external distributor partners worldwide.

Key responsibilities

1) Category strategy & training (internal + distributor-ready)

  • Lead the development of category training and strategy materials in collaboration with regional units and Category/Brand Managers.
  • Reuse and adapt existing content (global/regional) and create new modules where gaps exist.
  • Convert strategy into clear, distributor-ready tools: category playbooks, selling stories, fact sheets, product guides, activation examples, and training decks.
  • Maintain a structured training calendar and ensure materials are updated, approved, and easy to deploy across markets.

2) “Where to play” and whitespace opportunity planning

  • Lead category where-to-play work with regional input: market opportunities, channel priorities, shopper/consumer needs, and competitive whitespace.
  • Partner with Consumer Insights and regional commercial teams to size opportunities, define hypotheses, and build simple business cases.
  • Translate insights into prioritized initiatives and roadmaps that distributors and commercial teams can execute locally.

3) Distributor portal management (content + governance + adoption)

  • Own Distributor portal development, structure, and administration as the primary communication and enablement platform.
  • Define information architecture, content standards, tagging, version control, access/permissions, and publishing cadence.
  • Coordinate content contributions from Category, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain to ensure completeness and consistency.
  • Drive adoption: onboarding, usage guidelines, feedback loops, and continuous improvements to usability and relevance.

4) External communication governance for commercial content

  • Define and enforce what information is approved for external sharing with distributors and their customers (retailers, wholesalers, brokers).
  • Establish workflows for content review/approval (Commercial + Legal/Compliance as needed) and maintain a single source of truth.
  • Ensure consistent messaging, claims discipline, and standardized templates across countries and distributor partners.

Key deliverables

  • Distributor-ready Category Strategy & Training Toolkit (core modules + templates).
  • Annual category “where to play” opportunity maps and prioritized initiative roadmaps.
  • Live Distributor Portal with clear taxonomy, governance, and adoption plan.
  • External commercial content standards: templates, approval workflow, and publishing cadence.

Success measures (KPIs)

  • Delivery of prioritized “where to play” initiatives (on-time milestones, roadmap execution).
  • Portal adoption: active users, content usage/downloads, time-to-find content, satisfaction score.
  • Training deployment: completion rates, coverage across markets, quality/feedback scores.
  • Speed and consistency of content publication (cycle time, % content current/updated).
  • Stakeholder satisfaction (regional commercial/category teams and distributor leadership).

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate (BA/BS) degree.
  • 8–12+ years in Commercial Strategy, Sales, Commercial Excellence/PMO, Category Management, Marketing or Consumer Insights.
  • Expert understanding of the CPG or FMCG industry sector.
  • Strong facilitation skills; able to lead cross-regional planning and align diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven experience translating insights and strategy into practical field tools and training materials.
  • Experience managing a content platform/portal (or similar knowledge system) with governance and adoption focus.
  • Clear, assertive communicator with strong collaboration and “ways of working” improvement mindset.
  • Analytical and structured; comfortable building simple business cases and prioritization frameworks.
  • Travel 15 - 25% internationally.
