Quality Lab Tech II - Hunt Valley, MD

 

McCormick & Company, Inc., a world leader in the spice, flavor and seasonings industry, is seeking a full time Quality Lab Tech II. This new hire will work at the Technical Innovation Center, located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Quality Lab Tech II will report to the Quality Chemist II.

 

Position Overview:

Under the direct supervision of senior personnel, the Lab Technician will also be responsible for providing support for routine testing of flavors, condiments, seasonings, and extracts. Other activities include daily and monthly instrument checks, preparing standard solutions, and participating in internal and external audit / check programs.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct analytical testing as per example:
    • Liquid flavors: flash point, boiling point, density, specific gravity, refractive index, kinematic viscosity, pH, turbidity, and Gas Chromatography,
    • Seasoning and Condiments: viscosity, density, salt, acidity, color, moisture, fat.
    • Extract Testing – UV-Vis
  • Supports condiment and seasoning testing: salt and acid titrations, Hunter Color, moisture, fat, granulation, brix, viscosity, and density.
  • Interprets lab SOPs.  Ability to record and maintain accurate data.
  • Perform sanitation duties, proper housekeeping, and adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Perform calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Extracts Testing – UV-VIS, Gas Chromatography, and HPLC.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and/or Food Science
  • Associate degree in in chemistry and/or Food Science with a minimum of a minimum of 1-2 years’ lab experience, including the ability to maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs)
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Proven ability to make sound decisions based on analysis and reason.
  • Strong math skills, including computations, decimal/fraction conversions, and measurements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and contribute effectively as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing practices in work environment.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Applications, DevEx, SAP, Chemstation
  • Ability to work in an environment in which fumes, odors and dust are constant is required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

The pay range for this position is $21.07-$31.61.
