Position Overview
The Cloud Solutions Architect is responsible for designing, implementing and optimizing cloud-based solutions in alignment with enterprise architecture guidelines and business requirements, adopting multi-cloud and hybrid cloud strategies. The role works closely with internal customers, Platform Engineers, Software Developers, and other stakeholders to deliver cloud applications while ensuring security compliance, cost optimization, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Solution Design & Implementation
- Design and deliver performant, scalable, resilient, secure and cost-efficient cloud architectures aligned with enterprise guidelines and industry best practices, translating business and technical requirements into appropriate cloud technologies.
- Work with Platform Engineers and Software Developers to implement cloud solutions via automation, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Document architecture designs, including diagrams, runbooks, and decision logs to ensure transparency and auditability.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as a technical lead for cloud implementation projects, guiding Software Developers and Platform Engineers to design and deliver cloud-native applications.
- Collaborate with the broader Enterprise and Solutions Architecture through active participation in Cloud Center of Excellence, Architecture Community of Practice or by teaming up on complex projects, fostering knowledge sharing across teams.
- Partner with the FinOps Manager to design cost-effective cloud solutions without compromising performance.
- Communicate cloud strategies and architectural decisions effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Security & Compliance
- Collaborate with the Enterprise Cloud Architect, Security Architects and Platform Engineers to establish and implement cloud security baselines based on industry frameworks from NIST, CIS or CSA.
- Work closely with Security Architects to ensure solution designs and deployments adhere to architectural standards, security baselines and regulatory requirements.
- Proactively identify and mitigate security risks in cloud designs while ensuring exceptions to architectural or security standards are properly managed.
Multi-Cloud & Hybrid Cloud Enablement
- Design portable, interoperable solutions optimized for hybrid and multi-cloud environments using containerization and microservices for cloud-agnostic deployment.
- Support cloud migration initiatives, ensuring seamless transitions from on-premises to cloud or between cloud providers.
Innovation, Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Stay informed on cloud trends, evangelize their adoption where relevant, and conduct proof-of-concepts (PoC) and performance testing to evaluate emerging cloud technologies.
- Innovate in architectural design by adopting new cloud technologies or reimagining existing ones to enhance efficiency, resilience and security, while contributing reusable architectural patterns, templates, blueprints, and best practices.
- Optimize cost efficiency of cloud solutions by leveraging right-sizing, auto-scaling, and efficient resource allocation strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement in the Solutions Architecture process, ensuring efficiency, agility, and alignment with evolving business needs.

- As necessary, act as a Project Manager for large cloud architecture initiatives.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (10+ years related experience may substitute for a degree).
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Google Professional Cloud Architect
- 10+ years in IT, with 5+ years in cloud architecture, design, and implementation across enterprise-scale environments
- Working knowledge of scalable hybrid and multi-cloud architectures, cloud security, identity and access management, compliance frameworks, and cost management
- Thorough understanding of Azure and GCP capabilities, backed by hands-on experience with IaaS, PaaS and SaaS technologies
- Expertise in designing cloud-native services, serverless computing, microservices architectures, and containerization (Kubernetes, Docker, ECS, AKS, GKE, ARO)
- Experience mentoring Software Developers and Platform Engineers
- Experience with AI/ML workloads or data-intensive applications in the cloud (e.g using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Foundry, Azure OpenAI, GCP BigQuery, VertexAI)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, translating them into business impact
- Ability to communicate effectively on technical and business issues both internally and externally
- Ability to translate business requirements into cloud solutions effectively
- The ability to apply architectural principles to business solutions
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience in cloud troubleshooting and performance optimization
- Strong understanding of Entra ID, including Service Principals, App Registrations, Managed Identities, and RBAC
- Cross-functional expertise in cloud server & storage, networking, security, monitoring, and disaster recovery
- Experience running a mission-critical workload in the cloud, such as an enterprise resource planning system
- Experience migrating mission-critical on-premise applications to the cloud
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD and DevSecOps methodologies
