Position Overview:

The Senior Director, Customer and Operations Data Products will serve as McCormick’s enterprise leader accountable for maximizing the strategic and commercial impact of McCormick’s most critical Consumer, R&D, Regulatory, and HR data assets. This role will own the roadmap and execution for a portfolio of data products that harness the value of syndicated market data, household panel data, social listening insights, first-party consumer data, proprietary R&D formulas, sensory data, HR talent data, and other structured and unstructured datasets.  This role effectively will lead and deliver their Data Products as if they are a Brand Marketing Senior Director.  Reports to the Chief Data & Analytics Officer and serves as a key member of McCormick’s Data Leadership Team, shaping enterprise data strategies across Customer, Finance, Supply Chain, and Customer Service, domains.

This leader will direct a high-performing team of five data product managers, driving excellence in data product design, governance, and delivery. They will ensure McCormick’s data products are “Apple Simple” to find, trusted, and actionable—leveraging enterprise data intelligence platforms and catalogs such as Microsoft Purview or Data Bricks’ Unity Catalog to scale data accessibility and usability across the business.

The ideal candidate brings deep Consumer Goods industry expertise (10+ years), a proven track record of building high-impact data products, and the ability to thrive in a high-urgency, performance-driven culture. They will be recognized for attracting, developing, and retaining top analytics and engineering talent while fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Product Strategy & Vision:
    • Defines the strategy and roadmap for Customer, Finance, Supply Chain, and Customer Service,  data products that enable functional priorities and deliver measurable business value in alignment with McCormick’s enterprise data strategies—both at the functional level, as established by the Data Owners, and at the enterprise level as established by the Chief Data & Analytics Officer (CDAO).
    • Partners with stakeholders and Transformation & Technology Business Relationship Managers (BRMs) to prioritize initiatives based on business impact, ROI potential, and readiness for advanced analytics and AI applications.
    • Directs the design and delivery of data products that generate tangible business outcomes while ensuring scalability, interoperability, and long‑term sustainability.
  • Data Product Enterprise Delivery:
    • Own the full lifecycle of McCormick’s data products—from strategy and requirements definition through design, development, deployment, adoption, and continuous value realization—executed through a team of high-performing data product managers.
    • Integrate and harmonize diverse data ecosystems (syndicated, household panel, social, first-party, proprietary R&D formulations, sensory, rewards, performance, and other structured/unstructured sources) into scalable, insight-rich data products that power analytics and AI solutions.
    • Establish a unified data foundation—one ETL framework, one data characteristic schema, one integration approach—anchored by SAP master data as the central “cortex” driving consistency, interoperability, and speed across enterprise data assets.
    • Deliver with velocity and precision: achieve activation of pilot data products within one day, new data ingestion within one week, and scalable AI and analytics solutions within one month—the aspirational benchmark (“moonshot”) for data delivery excellence.
    • Quantify and communicate business impact: rigorously measure ROI, adoption, and performance of all data products, ensuring alignment with McCormick’s strategic objectives and measurable value creation across functions.
    • Partner with Data Engineering, IT, and business stakeholders to ensure data products are cataloged, governed, and discoverable in enterprise data intelligence platforms (e.g., Purview, Unity Catalog). 
    • Enables relevant stakeholders to easily find, understand, and use trusted data by ensuring data products are well-documented, cataloged, and supported with clear usage guidance.
    • Leads initiatives to strengthen engagement with data products and activate a culture where data is valued, trusted, and responsibly used as “ground truth”.
  • Data Quality, Trust & Compliance:
    • Drives adherence to enterprise and functional standards for data quality, lineage, metadata, and compliance across Customer, Finance, Supply Chain, and Customer Service, data products.
  • Talent Development:
    • Inspires a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning. Champions McCormick’s data-first mindset by developing future data leaders and embedding data-driven decision-making into everyday business practices.
    • Lead, coach, and inspire a team of eight data analysts, and over 15-20 data engineers, fostering a high-performance culture with clear accountability and measurable outcomes.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Data Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or related field (Master’s and/or MBA preferred).
  • Experience leading data product portfolios that span consumer insights, R&D innovation, and people analytics preferred.
  • Certified Data Management, Data Governance and Stewardship, Certified Product Manager, Microsoft Data Platforms (Azure), Databricks Certified Data Leader, SAP Business Data Cloud certification are pluses
  • 10+ years of experience in data product management, data strategy, or data governance within a complex or global organization
  • 10+ years of experience in R&D and/or Quality & Regulatory within the CPG, food, or manufacturing industries
  • Proven ability to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of data products, from vision and roadmap through delivery and adoption.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, quality, metadata, and governance, with the ability to connect technical design to business value and apply modern data product concepts (e.g. data mesh)
  • Demonstrated success working in Agile environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams including Data Engineering, IT, and business stakeholders.
  • Solid business acumen and communication skills, with experience quantifying data product value and driving data adoption across functions
  • Strong understanding of how data intelligence platforms (e.g., Purview, Unity Catalog) operate, with the ability to guide teams in building and managing data products within these environments. Building and making data models “analytics and AI ready” for scale.
    • Data pipeline design (ETL/ELT patterns, orchestration frameworks like Airflow or Dagster)
    • Modern data stack expertise (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift)
    • Data warehousing and lakehouse architecture
    • API-driven data integration and event-driven architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub)
    • Awareness of governance, lineage, and metadata management tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation)
    • Dimensional and semantic modeling (Kimball, Data Vault, dbt)
    • Building scalable data marts and analytics layers
    • ML lifecycle management (feature stores, model monitoring, retraining)
    • Integrating models into products via MLOps platforms (SageMaker, Vertex AI, MLflow)
    • Data quality frameworks (DQ checks, anomaly detection, observability)
    • Access controls and privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA)
  • Security best practices in cloud data environments
  • Demonstrates strong data literacy and the ability to translate complex data concepts into actionable business insights.
  • Operates with high accountability and ownership, ensuring data products deliver measurable business impact.
  • Demonstrates agility and adaptability in managing evolving priorities and emerging technologies within a dynamic data ecosystem.
  • Champions innovation by identifying opportunities to enhance data accessibility, usability, and value creation.
  • Collaborates effectively across technical and functional teams, fostering trust and alignment to achieve shared outcomes.

 

Base Salary: $166,360-299,450

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Sales Incentive Bonus (SIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Dividend Program.
